Traffic calming

What traffic calming is, the construction work we're doing, and how you can find out more

What traffic calming is

'Traffic calming' refers to design features that improve safety on our roads. This can include measures such as pedestrian crossings, speed bumps, and chicanes.

What we're doing

We'll be making traffic calming improvements in Bridge of Weir, Howwood, Houston, and Kilbarchan over the next three years.

The changes are based on a series of traffic calming investigations by consultants as well as close collaboration with the community councils in each area. They will help to slow traffic and create safer walking routes in the villages.

Construction work is due to start in November 2023. We'll begin with gateway features on the approaches to the villages. These will be a physical and visual indication to drivers that they're entering the area and to reduce speed.

How to learn more
