Early support for your health and wellbeing

We really want to avoid a period of absence, when possible. But if you are absent, we want to help you to feel better and return to work more quickly.

Wellbeing hub and manager support

Our wellbeing hub contains information on the support available.

Managers are encouraged to have regular check-ins and one to one wellbeing conversations with colleagues in their teams, so they can notice issues and offer help at an early stage. If you're struggling with your health and wellbeing at work or are likely to have a long-term sickness absence (an absence spell of more than 28 calendar days pro-rated), we want to support you as soon as possible.

Your manager, HR&OD, a Mental Health First Aider or your Trade Union can provide support with any health and wellbeing problems at work.

Counselling service

You can also access our free, confidential Counselling Service at any stage (by self referral or manager referral) for support with a range of health, personal or work related issues. This service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Returning to work after sickness

Your line manager can find out if you need any early health and wellbeing support during your keeping in touch discussions. You may be able to return to work before you have fully recovered. Workplace adjustments can often help your recovery and overall wellbeing, including if you have a long term health condition.
