Who the Microsoft Excel courses are for, what you will learn, when and where the courses are on, how to apply for a place.

Microsoft Excel for beginners

This course is for Council employees with limited or no Microsoft Excel skills, who want to learn the basics of creating and managing Excel spreadsheets.

What you will learn:

  • Learn valuable shortcuts of navigation, selection and commands (with and without a mouse)
  • Enter and manipulate data into a spreadsheet
  • Format a spreadsheet
  • Change the structure of a spreadsheet
  • Apply a basic formula to your spreadsheet
  • Understand the principle of absolute vs relative referencing
  • Apply various print-options
  • Insert and format graphs and charts
  • Develop a fully functioning spreadsheet from scratch

This one-day course is delivered by West College Scotland at their Paisley campus.

Microsoft Excel intermediate level

This course is for Council employees who are already familiar with the basics of Microsoft Excel and want to grow their skills to an intermediate level.

What you will learn:

  • Learn shortcuts navigation, selection and command shortcuts
  • Apply time-saving formulas like 'if statements', 'nested if statements', 'sum-if' or 'count-if'
  • Protect your worksheets and workbooks
  • Apply data validation techniques, which allows you to automate functions from entered text
  • Manipulate text data through formulas
  • Work efficiently with relative and absolute referencing
  • Link cells, worksheets and workbooks to create dynamic automatic reports
  • Use templates within excel
