What the consultation is

This consultation is for parents and carers of pupils who attend or due to attend a school in Johnstone.

We’re looking for your feedback on proposals to invest in education provision.
This includes:

  • a new Johnstone High School
  • a redesign of Johnstone’s primary school estate.

There are 3 options for investment in Johnstone High School:

  • to retrofit the existing building
  • build a new school on the same site, or
  • build a new school on a new site (the Beith Road playing fields).

The proposals for the Johnstone primary redesign would see:

  • Cochrane Castle and Fordbank merged into one school in the existing Fordbank building
  • St David’s and St Margaret’s merged into one school in the West Johnstone Joint Campus building
  • Auchenlodment and Thorn merged into one school in one of three possible locations (see below)
  • no changes to St Anthony’s Primary.

The options for the merged Auchenlodment/Thorn all include a combined school with a nursery and community spaces. They are:

  • a new-build school on the current Thorn site
  • to retrofit and extend the existing Auchenlodment building
  • a new-build school on the current Auchenlodment site
  • a new-build school on a new site (the open land at Poplar Avenue).

Why we’re consulting

These proposals aim to improve learning environments, support better outcomes for children and young people, and ensure school provision meets future needs.

We want to gather views from parents, carers, pupils, staff and the wider community to help inform the next stage of planning.

Councillors will be asked to agree a preferred option for each project next year, and your views will help us decide what that should be.

How you can tell us what you think

This consultation phase closes on Friday 31 July 2026.
