What the consultation is
Following concerns raised by the local community regarding vehicle speeds and traffic volumes, we’ve commissioned transport consultants Stantec to carry out a study of Hawkhead Road, Seedhill Road and the surrounding area in Paisley.
The study will investigate locations where vehicle speeds raise safety concerns and identify opportunities for traffic calming, pedestrian priority measures, and active travel infrastructure improvements.
The study area includes several key community destinations, including:
- Williamsburgh Primary School
- St John Ogilvie Primary School
- St Andrew’s Academy
- Mary Russell School
- Hawkhead Railway Station.
The study aims to:
- enhance accessibility for users of all abilities
- increase connectivity between local communities, services and amenities
- encourage more walking, wheeling, and cycling for journeys
- improve safety for all users along Hawkhead Road and Seedhill Road
- improve safety on routes to school.
Why we’re consulting
We’re looking for feedback from residents, businesses, schools, and partners to help us better understand local transport and road safety issues within the study area.
Community knowledge is essential in identifying locations where:
- there are road safety concerns
- vehicle speeds are seen as an issue
- walking, wheeling, or cycling is difficult
- people experience accessibility barriers
- improvements could help connect communities, schools, public transport, and local destinations.
Your feedback will help shape the development of potential improvement options and ensure local priorities are reflected in future proposals.
We’re particularly interested in hearing about areas where you feel unsafe crossing roads, locations with traffic speed concerns, and routes used to access schools, public transport and other community destinations.
How you can tell us what you think
Online
Tell us what you think with our online survey and interactive map
You’ll be able to:
- share your views with the online survey
- provide location specific feedback through the interactive map
- share information about road safety concerns, accessibility issues, and active travel barriers
- identify locations where improvements are required for walking, wheeling, and cycling.
What happens next
After the consultation period has closed, the project team will review and analyse all the responses.
We’ll use the feedback we receive along with technical assessments, traffic data, and site investigations to help develop improvement options for Hawkhead Road, Seedhill Road and the surrounding area in Paisley.
Preferred options will be presented during a further round of public consultation later in 2026.
This will include consultation on preferred options and an in-person drop-in event where residents and stakeholders can discuss proposals directly with the project team.
We’ll use the findings to develop the final recommendations of the study.
We anticipate the Hawkhead Road and Seedhill Road traffic safety study will be completed in January 2027.
We’ll publish an update on the consultation findings, recommended measures, and next steps once the full study is completed.
