What the consultation is
We asked for feedback on proposals to improve Erskine's town centre and riverfront.
The proposals aim to:
- enhance the town centre environment
- improve connectivity and accessibility
- promote better use of green spaces.
The first project we will progress is the development of a new civic plaza in the town centre.
Initial designs for this have already been created.
Why we’re consulting
We want to redevelop and improve underused land and public spaces in Erskine's town centre and riverfront as part of the Centre Strategy for Erskine.
Consultation outcome
Consultation summary
Thank you to everyone who shared your feedback on the proposed Erskine Civic Plaza.
We received a wide range of valuable input through our in-person event at Erskine Sports Centre and an online survey.
Your comments have been very helpful in shaping the final design and reflect the importance of creating a new civic space as a focal point for the local community.
What you told us
General support
Most respondents supported the proposals and wanted works to progress to construction quickly.
They also said the maintenance of the new space was important once it was complete, particularly the green spaces.
Suggestions for enhancements
Several respondents said a good use of the space would include:
- installation of infrastructure, such as power connections, for events and a Christmas tree
- anchor points for shelters.
People also though lighting of new paths was important for safety and to create a better environment in the evenings.
Some people wanted play equipment to be included in the new space.
And there was a recommendation for a buffer between Kilpatrick Drive and the new civic plaza for safety reasons and to separate the new space from the road.
What happens next
We have now finalised a design for the new Civic Plaza that reflects your feedback.
This includes:
- anchor points for shelters and infrastructure for a Christmas tree
- a lighting design which highlights the new paths being constructed
- inclusion of small elements of natural play equipment
- a low post and wire fence with hedge as a buffer between the site and Kilpatrick Drive.
We’ll soon hire a contractor to deliver the works on site.
We aim to start works in early 2026 and we’ll share the progress with you here.
