Renfrewshire Villages Safe Walking Initiative
About the Renfrewshire Villages Safe Walking Initiative, tell us what you think, and what happens next.
About the initiative
We are exploring ways to improve the walking environment in 4 villages in Renfrewshire after residents raised concerns that the speed and volume of traffic are making the roads unsafe.
We have appointed transport consultants Stantec to carry out a study in Bishopton, Bridge of Weir, Elderslie and Lochwinnoch.
The study aims to create a safer environment in the villages for all road users by managing traffic speeds, to encourage people to walk, wheel, and cycle more often for local trips.
It will examine where vehicle speed on main through-roads is a safety concern and propose traffic calming or pedestrian priority measures to address the issues.

Tell us what you think
After you've looked at the study, fill out our online survey and give your feedback on:
- traffic speeds and walking difficulties in your village
- what type of traffic calming features you would prefer
- where best to put traffic calming or pedestrian priority measures.
The survey has 12 questions. Most of the questions are multiple choice, and you can write out a longer response for some of them if you'd like.
There is a separate survey for each village.
Fill out the survey for Bishopton
Fill out the survey for Bridge of Weir
Fill out the survey for Elderslie
Fill out the survey for Lochwinnoch
The surveys will close on Sunday 22 September 2024.
Paper copies of the survey are also available at:
- Bishopton Community Library
- Bridge of Weir Community Library
- Johnstone Community Library (for residents of Elderslie)
- Lochwinnoch Community Library.
What happens next
After this consultation, based on your answers, Stantec will propose targeted traffic calming measures to try to reduce traffic speed and improve pedestrian safety.
Stantec will then consult the public on these proposals.
