How to apply for Sustainable Communities Funding
What information we need, when to apply, how we will assess your application, applying for more than one grant, help with your application.
What information we need
You need to tell us:
- basic information about your organisation and it's governance arrangements
- a detailed description of your project including timelines
- which tier of funding you're applying for
- the costs associated with your project
- the costs you are applying for and if they are capital or revenue, or both
- the outputs and outcomes of your project and how these will be measured
Your application needs to include:
- a bank statement less than three months old
- a copy of your most recent annual accounts or an income and expenditure statement - these should be less than 15 months old, dated and signed as approved - you can include a link to the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) or to a Companies House submitted file
- a signed, dated copy of the organisation's Constitution or Memorandum and Articles of Association - you can include a link to the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) or to a Companies House submitted file.
If it's a new organisation, you should submit estimates of income and expenditure for the first 12 months.
You can also include any other relevant reports or information to support your application like media coverage, press cuttings, images, past publicity materials, reviews or letters of support, in PDF file format where possible.

When to apply
Applications open from Monday 2 October 2023.
The fund will remain open until 30 November 2024 or until all funding is allocated.
There are 6 application rounds.

We'll let you know the decision after the Board meeting.
How we'll assess your application
Your application will be assessed on the following criteria.
You have identified:
- the community need for your project
- the impact your project will have
- how you will measure if it has made a positive change
- how your project will work with existing local facilities and services
- how your project will be financially sustainable
- other confirmed sources of funding.
You can show:
- how the community supports your plans and have been involved in the development and delivery of your project
- your organisation has suitable governance arrangements in place for the scale of the project
- your organisation has clear succession plans in place for the recruitment of board members or trustees
- your organisation has the appropriate skills, experience, and qualifications to deliver the project, or has planned how you will resource this
- how the project is inclusive so everyone in the community can access the services, facilities or activities.

Applying for more than one grant
We may consider multiple applications to the same tier if it's for entirely separate projects.
You can make more than one application for a grant, but this needs to be for different projects at the same tier, or for the same project in different tiers as it develops and progresses.
