Paisley primary school celebrates double digital award

Pupils and staff at a Paisley school are celebrating achieving two digital awards.

Langcraigs Primary School received two awards from Digital Schools Awards Scotland. These were the Equitable Creative Coding (ECCo) Award and Digital Wellbeing Award.

The awards recognise the school’s commitment to digital learning and wellbeing. Children learn how to navigate the online world safely, responsibly and confidently.

Pupils across the school are confident and learn independently. Digital Leaders support other pupils to learn digital skills and keep safe online. They also help younger pupils by teaching them coding.

Pupil voice and leadership allow children to contribute to school decisions. It helps pupils to promote positive behaviour, both online and at school.

Creative coding supports the curriculum. Everyone from primary 1 through to primary 7 uses coding as part of their learning. Pupils learn to problem solving, creativity and critical thinking skills. Recently, pupils learned to use digital tools to create a stop-motion animation.

The school has a strong culture of inclusion and working together was praised. This is supported by families and partner agencies.

STEM projects also support children's learning. Experiences like building a portable luge ramp and Goblin car provide real-world opportunities. These projects were in partnership with the Royal Navy and Glasgow Caledonian University.

Lisa Robertson, Head Teacher, said:

We are absolutely delighted to receive both the Equitable Creative Coding Award and the Digital Wellbeing Award. These achievements reflect the dedication of our staff and the enthusiasm of our pupils.

We are particularly proud of our Digital Leaders, who demonstrate outstanding leadership by supporting younger pupils, promoting positive online behaviours and helping to shape our school’s digital culture. These awards recognise the inclusive and supportive environment we have built together and our commitment to ensuring every child can thrive in an increasingly digital world.

Sarah Colquhoun, class teacher and digital champion for the school, added:

It was great to see the validation team recognise the passion and commitment of both staff and pupils. Digital wellbeing and creative coding are embedded throughout our school, and we continually reflect on our practice while listening carefully to pupil voice.

Achieving these awards is a fantastic recognition of the collaborative work taking place across Langcraigs Primary School.

Councillor Emma Rodden, Renfrewshire Council’s Education Convener, said:

Being recognised for these two digital awards is fantastic. These achievements showcase the strong commitment Langcraigs has a school to equipping children with the skills they need for today’s digital world. My congratulations go to all staff, pupils and partners involved.
