Paisley children create special haven pocket garden

Adults and children making a pocket garden.

A Paisley nursery is in the running for a national competition.

Hillview Early Learning and Childcare Centre (ELCC) have entered their very first pocket garden. The competition is run by Keep Scotland Beautiful.

Nursery children, their families and the local community were all involved. Together, they created the Hillview Haven and Nectar Café.

The pocket garden helped children learn about growing and caring for plants. They even had to contend with cold weather followed by a heatwave.

Nicola McPhee from the nursery explained:

Creating our pocket garden has been a truly joyful experience. We loved researching and designing the space, learning about a wide variety of plants and flowers along the way.

By involving our families and wider community, we sparked meaningful discussions and shared ideas. The enthusiasm grew, with some children even continuing their planting journey at home alongside their grandparents, extending the learning beyond our setting.

Voting is open until 9am on Monday 22 June.
