Work starts on new £1million active play area in Paisley

Work has now started on site to create a brand-new £1million active play facility for all ages at Lagoon Leisure Centre in Paisley.

Once complete it will feature a TAG Active arena where players compete against friends to collect points using a wristband sensor on lights located around the climbing maze. The activity is a great test of strategy, speed and agility.

The arena includes tunnels, crawl spaces, a cargo climb maze, giant inflatable balls and climbing frames as part of a vibrant play space designed to promote fitness, fun and competition.

A baby and toddler area will feature interactive toys, slides and ramps, dangly snakes and bashbags, balance boxes, giant building cubes and a range of other exciting apparatus to keep little ones entertained. There will also be a free play area with chutes, slides and climbing frames.

The active play will also support those with additional support needs through the provision of a dedicated sensory area, featuring interactive panels, beanbags and mirrors as part of a colourful imagination zone.

A generous seating area will give parents and carers a great view of all the key play zones while enjoying the café available on site. The area will also have a new party room to host birthdays and special events.

Councillor Lisa-Marie Hughes, Chair of OneRen, said:

It’s fantastic to see work now underway on this exciting new facility in Paisley.

We know how important it is to for families to have access to local, high-quality play opportunities for their children. We also want to make sure we’re creating spaces that are inclusive and welcoming to all our families, which is why the dedicated sensory area was included.

The play area at the Lagoon will be a great resource in the heart of the town which in addition to providing a great play experience for children will also offer parents and carers a place to meet and socialise.

I look forward to seeing the completed play area and can’t wait for families from Renfrewshire and beyond to start using this fantastic new facility.

Contractor Alliance Leisure Services Limited have started construction, with work expected to be completed by late summer 2026.

In addition to the active play area,  councillors agreed to allocate £2million to support upgrades to OneRen sports and leisure venues as part of Renfrewshire Council’s budget for 2026/27.
