Voters are being encouraged to have their say as voting begins today (7 May 2026) for the Scottish Parliament election.
Voting will take place in three constituencies in Renfrewshire, including Paisley, Renfrewshire North and Cardonald and Renfrewshire West and Levern Valley, as well as for the West Scotland Region.
Polling stations opened at 7am and will be available for voters to cast their vote in-person until 10pm, with details of the correct polling place found on poll card letters issued to each individual voter.
Anyone who was not able to return their postal vote in advance can hand it in to a polling station within the relevant constituency.
Any voter experiencing an emergency that will prevent them voting in-person can apply for an emergency proxy from the Electoral Registration Office. This needs to take place by 5pm today (7 May) by calling 0300 300 0150.
Alan Russell, Returning Officer and Renfrewshire Council Chief Executive said:
I would encourage everyone to have their say today as polls open for the Scottish Parliament election.
Your poll letter will outline where your polling station is and the council website has further information should you have any questions, with our election team available to support you today too.
Polling stations will remain open until 10pm tonight and the votes will then be verified and counted at Braehead Arena tomorrow, with the election results due on Friday afternoon.
In a change from the last Scottish Parliament election, and following a review by Boundaries Scotland, Cardonald has become part of a new Renfrewshire North and Cardonald constituency and various changes have been made to polling districts and numbering—with any change to a voter’s polling place outlined on their poll card letter.
