Renfrewshire parents and carers who have received a school clothing grant will get an additional £50 winter clothing payment for each eligible child.
The additional money will help families buy additional clothing for the winter months and is part of a wide range of support to help people through the cost-of-living crisis and Renfrewshire Council’s Fairer Renfrewshire programme.
The money will be paid into bank accounts by Friday 31 October to anyone who has received a school clothing grant for this school year (August 2025 to June 2026).
More than 5,500 children across Renfrewshire have received a school clothing grant this school year, totalling to more than £740,000 paid out to families.
There are also more than 4,400 children in receipt of free school meals who are further supported by additional payments from the Council to help with costs over the main school holidays.
Councillor Jacqueline Cameron, depute leader of Renfrewshire Council and chair of the Fairer Renfrewshire sub-committee, said:
Costs continue to remain higher than before the cost-of-living crisis and we want to ensure our families get the support they need.
The £50 winter clothing grant can help families buy additional clothing for children and young people during the winter months.
For families, maximising their income and keeping money in their pockets is incredibly important. For anyone who hasn’t applied for a school clothing grant or free school meals this year and is entitled to them, I would encourage them to apply and start receiving these payments going forward.
