Christmas and New Year opening hours and service changes

The council will close at 2:30pm on Wednesday 24 December 2025 and will open again at 8:45am on Tuesday 6 January 2026.

However, all essential services will continue to operate.

Customer service centre opening hours

The Customer Service Centre at Renfrewshire House, Paisley, will close on Wednesday 24 December 2025 at 2.30pm. 

It will reopen on Tuesday 6 January 2026 at 8:45am.

Please use our MyAccount service online to carry out tasks and make requests wherever possible.

Festive opening hours for calls: 

  • Thursday 25 December and Friday 26 December 2025 – customer service centre is closed (phone 0300 300 0300 for emergency calls only)
  • Monday 29 December 2025 – open 10am to 4pm (limited services available and emergency calls - phone 0300 300 0300)
  • Tuesday 30 December 2025 – open 10am to 4pm (limited services available and emergency calls - phone 0300 300 0300)
  • Wednesday 31 December 2025 – open 10am to 2:30pm (limited services available and emergency calls - phone 0300 300 0300)
  • Thursday 1 January and Friday 2 January 2026 – customer service centre is closed (phone 0300 300 0300 for emergency calls only)
  • Monday 5 January 2026 – open 10am to 4pm (limited services and emergency calls - phone 0300 300 0300).

Our customer service centre will return to normal service from 8:45am to 4:45pm on Tuesday 6 January 2025.

Bins and recycling

Bin collections

There are no bin collections on: 

  • Thursday 25 December 2025
  • Friday 26 December 2025
  • Thursday 1 January 2026
  • Friday 2 January 2026.  

There are no brown bin collections from Monday 22 December 2025. These will resume from Monday 5 January 2026.

Rescheduled bin collections: 

Blue bin collection date changes:

  • collections due on Thursday 25 and Friday 26 December will be collected on Tuesday 23 December
  • collections due on Thursday 1 and Friday 2 January will be collected on Monday 29 December.

Green bin collection date changes:

  • collections due on Thursday 25 and Friday 26 December will be collected on Wednesday 24 December
  • collections due on Thursday 1 and Friday 2 January will be collected on Tuesday 30 December.

Grey bin collections date changes:

  • collections due on Thursday 25 and Friday 26 December will be collected on Saturday 27 December
  • collections due on Thursday 1 January will be collected on Wednesday 31 December
  • collections due on Friday 2 January will be collected on Saturday 3 January.

Household waste recycling centres

All household waste recycling centres will be closed on:

  • Thursday 25 December 2025
  • Friday 26 December 2025
  • Thursday 1 January 2026
  • Friday 2 January 2026.  

All centres will close at 4pm on Wednesday 24 December 2025 and reopen at 8am on Saturday 27 December 2025.

They will also close at 4pm on Wednesday 31 December 2025 and reopen at 8am on Saturday 3 January 2026.

Normal opening hours apply on all other days. Our centres are open from 8am to 6pm and last entry is 5:45pm.

Bulky waste collection

Our bulky waste collection service will not operate between Monday 22 December 2025 and Sunday 4 January 2026. No requests can be taken during this period. 

The service will restart on Monday 5 January 2026.

Christmas tree recycling

You can recycle your real Christmas tree from Friday 2 January to Thursday 8 January 2026 at the following places:

  • Barshaw Park, Paisley
  • Barwood Park, Erskine
  • Lochwinnoch Public Park
  • Thomas Shanks Park, Johnstone.

You can also recycle your real Christmas tree at our household waste recycling centres at:

Housing

Emergency housing repairs

In an emergency, council tenants can contact our repair service. The repairs service will deal with emergencies only from 2pm on Wednesday 24 December 2025 to 8:45am on Tuesday 6 January 2026.

You can report emergency repairs by phoning 0300 300 0300 (24 hours).

Housing support

If you’re an existing service user, you can contact the team during normal office hours between Christmas and New Year by phoning 0300 300 0344.

Homeless services

We operate a 24-hour emergency stand-by service for anyone who becomes homeless. You can contact us by phoning 0800 121 4466.

We’ll also have Housing Options staff available between 9am and 3pm on Monday 29 December and Tuesday 30 December 2025, and between 9am and 2:30pm on Wednesday 31 December 2025. To contact staff during this time, phone us on 0300 300 1203

At all other times, you can phone us on 0800 121 4466.

Refugee resettlement

The team can be contacted for urgent matters during normal office hours (8.45am-4.45pm) between Christmas and New Year by phoning 0300 300 0350.

Sheltered Housing 

Normal service will be in operation throughout the festive period.

Concierge service

Normal service will be in operation throughout the festive period.

Local housing teams

Our local housing teams are closed during the festive period and will reopen on Tuesday 6 January 2026.

Laundrettes

Notices detailing daily opening hours will be displayed at all laundrettes.

You can report a road, street lighting fault and flooding online or phone us on 0300 300 0300.

For issues or concerns about motorways, trunk roads or Erskine Bridge, you should contact Traffic Scotland on 0800 028 1414.

Building services

Our Building Services will operate an emergency service from 1pm on Wednesday 24 December 2025 until 8am on Monday 5 January 2026.

Rent Payment

You can access your rent account online with MyAccount.

You can also pay your rent at your local post office, at PayPoint at local stores throughout Renfrewshire or over the phone on 0300 300 0300.

Financial support

If you need help with or to apply for Scottish Welfare Fund and/or Crisis Grants, you can phone us on 0300 300 0204.

Education

Schools, nurseries and childcare centres

All schools and term-time early learning and childcare centres (ELCCs) will close at 2:30pm on Friday 19 December 2025 and reopen on Tuesday 6 January 2026. 

All other ELCCs will close at their usual time on Wednesday 24 December 2025. 

An essential Early Years service will run for families in need on Monday 29 December and Tuesday 30 December 2025. It will also run on Wednesday 31 December 2025 with an early closure.

Births and deaths

Registering births and deaths

Paisley Registration Office will close on Wednesday 24 December 2025 at 2:30pm and reopen on Tuesday 6 January 2026. 

Birth registrations will be available again by appointment from Thursday 8 January 2026.

Death registrations are being carried out remotely and families will be contacted by registration staff to make appointments during the following dates and times:

  • Monday 29 December 2025 – 10am to 4pm
  • Tuesday 30 December 2025 – 10am to 4pm
  • Wednesday 31 December 2025 – 10am to 2:30pm
  • Monday 5 January 2026 – 10am to 4pm.

The service will return to normal from 8:45am to 4:45pm on Tuesday 6 January 2026.

Emergency death registrations

An emergency death registration can be made where the body is being transported out of Scotland or the registration must be completed so the burial can take place due to religious beliefs.

Renfrewshire Health and Social Care Partnership (RHSCP) services

You can see full festive closure information on the RHSCP website.

Services based in Renfrewshire House, Paisley, will operate normal opening hours except from public holidays. Social work services will resume on Tuesday 6 January 2026.

Adult social work teams

Adult Services and Renfrewshire Learning Disability Service Community Team will close at 2:30pm on both Wednesday 24 December and Wednesday 31 December 2025.

A limited service will operate on the following days:

  • Friday 26 December 2025
  • Monday 29 December 2025
  • Wednesday 31 December 2025.

Adult social work services will fully resume on Tuesday 6 January 2026.

Royal Alexandra Hospital Social Work Team will be open as normal, except when closed on Thursday 25 December 2025 and Thursday 1 January 2026.

Emergency social work services

GP surgeries

GP surgeries will be closed on:

  • Thursday 25 December 2025
  • Friday 26 December 2025

When your GP surgery is closed, and you are too ill to wait until it reopens, you should contact NHS 24 on 111.

Learning Disability Services

Adult community learning disability social work is available on the same basis as other Renfrewshire adult social work teams – see Adult social work teams above.

All community learning disability health professions are available via locally agreed cover arrangements on:

  • Monday 29 December 2025
  • Tuesday 30 December 2025
  • Wednesday 31 December 2025
  • Monday 5 January 2026.

All other Learning Disability Services will close at 2.30pm on Wednesday 24

December 2025 and reopen on Monday 5 January 2026.

This includes:

  • Day Opportunities: Mirin and Milldale
  • Community Networks
  • Flexicare
  • Autism Connections.

Community Meals Service

The Community Meals Service will operate throughout the festive period.

Physical Disability Service

The Physical Disability Service based at the Disability Resource Centre will close at 2.30pm on Wednesday 24 December 2025 and reopen on Monday 5 January 2026.

Care at Home service

Support from Care at Home services will continue to operate between 7am and 10pm.

A restricted Care at Home Management presence will be in operation from 2.30pm on Wednesday 24 December 2025 until normal services resume at 8.45am on Tuesday 6 January 2026.

The Care at Home service will operate an out-of-hours service for urgent support to staff and users or representatives. You can access this by phoning 0300 300 1380.

Adult Services Referral Team (ASeRT)

Adult Services Referral Team (ASeRT) will be closed on the following public holidays:

  • Thursday 25 December 2025
  • Friday 26 December 2025
  • Thursday 1 January 2026
  • Friday 2 January 2026.

It will operate as normal on Monday 29 December to Wednesday 31 December 2025, and will resume fully on Tuesday 6 January 2026. 

Referrals to the ASeRT Team should be directed to 0300 300 1380 (option 4).

Day Centres

Older people day centres will close at 2.30pm on Wednesday 24 December 2025 and reopen on Tuesday 6 January 2026.

Care Homes

All care homes are open to visitors. Please speak to the care home manager directly about visiting arrangements.

Mental Health Services

The Intensive Home Treatment Team will provide a limited service from 9am to 5pm on the following public holidays:

  • Thursday 25 December 2025
  • Friday 26 December 2025
  • Thursday 1 January 2026
  • Friday 2 January 2026.

Paisley, West Renfrewshire and Older People's Community Mental Health Team will operate on Friday 26 December 2025, Monday 29 December 2025 and Wednesday 31 December 2025.

There will be no mental health social work services on the following dates:

  • Thursday 25 December 2025

  • Thursday 1 January 2026
  • Friday 2 January 2026.

Services will fully resume on Monday 5 January 2026.

Renfrewshire Alcohol, Drug and Recovery Services (including Circle)

Opening hours:

  • Wednesday 24 December 2025 - open
  • Thursday 25 December 2025 and Friday 26 December 2025 - closed
  • Wednesday 31 December 2025 – Open
  • Thursday 1 January 2026 and Friday 2 January 2026 – closed.

Services will resume as normal on Monday 5 January 2026.

Community Safety Partnership services

All Community Safety Partnership services, including the Renfrewshire Wardens, will be unavailable on:

  • Thursday 25 December 2025
  • Friday 26 December 2025
  • Thursday 1 January 2026
  • Friday 2 January 2026. 

Services will operate as normal on all other days. 

Calls for antisocial behaviour (including noise complaints) should be made to the Wardens Service by contacting 0300 300 0380 (option 1). 

Wardens can attend incidents and act as witnesses in the absence of antisocial behaviour staff.

Public Space CCTV services operate on a 365 day, 24 hour basis and are operational throughout the festive period.

Children’s services

Information on opening hours for the following teams:

  • Children and Families team
  • Pre and Post Birth team
  • Children with Disabilities team
  • Fostering and Adoption team
  • Kinship Care team
  • Whole Systems / RADAR team
  • Throughcare team.

Social work offices in Johnstone, Paisley and Renfrew will close at 2:30pm on Wednesday 24 December 2025. 

These offices will be open on:

  • Monday 29 December 2025 - 8:45am until 4:45pm
  • Tuesday 30 December 2025 - 8:45am until 4:45pm
  • Wednesday 31 December 2025 - 8:45am to 2:30pm. 

The offices will be open as normal from 8:45am on Tuesday 6 January 2026.

Justice Social Work services

These services will close at 2:30pm on Wednesday 24 December 2025.  

These offices will be open on:

  • Monday 29 December 2025 - 8:45am until 4:45pm
  • Tuesday 30 December 2025 - 8:45am until 4:45pm
  • Wednesday 31 December 2025 - 8:45am to 2:30pm. 

The offices will be open as normal from 8:45am on Tuesday 6 January 2026.

Unpaid Work Service

The Unpaid Work Service will close at 2:30pm on Wednesday 24 December 2025 and reopen on Saturday 27 December 2025.

  • Tuesday 30 December.  

The service will be closed on Wednesday 31 December and reopen on Tuesday 6 January 2026.

Paisley Sheriff Court Social Work

A social work service will be available when the court is open over the festive period.
