About Councillor and Provost Cameron
Councillor and Provost Cameron was brought up in Paisley, where she has lived all her life.
She balanced office administration employment with bringing up her family. She worked part-time in a local hotel for a few years, while her children were young.
Changes in technology meant she had to think about refreshing her skills for re-entering the workplace. She subsequently gained a BA Business Administration and Human Resources Management as a mature student.
Lorraine became involved in the Scout movement after assisting in the Cubs when her children were young and became a warranted Scout Leader with St Peters Scouts in Paisley.
She was also a volunteer with Home-Start UK, a charity that helps families with young children deal with the challenges they face, and helps families struggling with post-natal depression, physical and mental health problems, bereavement, and many other issues.
Following her mother’s diagnosis of Motor Neurone Disease (MND), Lorraine set up a support group with the support of the ACCORD Hospice, people in Renfrewshire who had MND and their families and friends.
She still runs a support group on social media and is committed to fundraising for a cure and raising awareness of MND, in addition to supporting local Renfrewshire charities.
