Green Print update - May 2025

The Green Print project has made fantastic progress over the last two years, saving the council money and contributing to our work to achieving Net Zero.

Working with services from across the council, and Cannon our new supplier, the project team has reduced our overall printer fleet by 35%.

The 35% reduction represents a significant annual saving in lease costs and work continues to identify further saving opportunities from reducing paper costs and print volumes.

Move to recycled paper

To reduce our paper costs and impact on the environment, we are replacing all our printing paper with recycled paper.

Please continue to use current paper supplies but from Monday 2 June you will only be able to order recycled printing paper from Lyreco our stationery supplier. There are a range of paper products that are available on the Lyreco catalogue, the following recycled paper has been tested and must be used going forward. The product codes you should use are as follows:

  • A4 paper: 3917601
  • A3 paper: 8974747

Supporting Elected Members

The team is working with colleagues in Member Services and with our Elected Members to review the process for the printing and delivery of Council board papers.

Meetings have been taking place to understand each members requirement and to agree how we can help reduce costs and contribute to Net Zero.

Reducing print volumes

In 2023, 35 million sheets of paper were printed in total across the Council, the equivalent of approximately 3,500 trees.

That number increased to 36 million sheets of paper in 2024, and we all have an obligation to address this and reduce these figures.

The revised printer estate has been sized based on a reduction in printing. Based on current print trends, if this continues, we will start experiencing issues with our printers and may result in users not being able to print.

We need everyone to think before you print, and to print only by exception, rather than by default or because it is nice to have.
