Renfrewshire Council

Child Poverty

How we are tackling child poverty, the latest child poverty action report

As a council, we are tasked with significantly reducing child poverty for local people by 2030 as set by the Scottish Government in the Child Poverty (Scotland) Act 2017.

The three key drivers of child poverty have been identified by the Scottish Government as:

  • income from employment
  • costs of living
  • income from Social Security and benefits in kind.

The current priorities for reducing child poverty have been identified by the Scottish Government as:

  • provide opportunities and integrated support that parents need to enter, sustain and progress in work
  • maximise support available for families to lead dignified lives and meet their basic needs
  • support the next generation to thrive.

We are required to submit an annual report to update the Scottish Government on our progress. You can read our latest report below, which details our current, planned and proposed actions.
