Top grades for Glenburn school and nursery after inspection

Four young children wear chef's hats and sit at a table with baking equipment laid out.

Pupils and staff at a Paisley school and nursery are over the moon to receive top grades in a recent inspection.

Bushes Primary School and Early Learning and Childcare Class (ELCC) received six Very Good and one Good grade. They were inspected by His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Education (HMIE) in Scotland.

Inspectors said the head teacher provides strong leadership, supported by senior staff. The school and nursery have a clear vision that is shared by children, staff and families.

Children achieve consistently high levels of attainment and achievement. The report describes them as kind, caring and supportive of one another. It said they feel safe, valued and happy while learning and are proud of their local community.

Staff have nurturing, respectful and trusting relationships with families. Inspectors said this supports the welcoming, positive environment throughout the school.

The team use data to identify gaps in children's learning. This ensures children receive targeted support to enable them to continue to learn.

Head Teacher Craig McCrorie said:

I am delighted that the school and the Early Learning and Childcare Class have received such a positive inspection report from Education Scotland. This fantastic achievement is a testament to the incredible commitment, passion, and hard work demonstrated by our staff and pupils through their actions every day.

We are thrilled to be recognised for our unwavering commitment to securing the very best outcomes for every one of our children. This recognition reflects the positive, warm and nurturing learning environment we strive to create—one in which children feel safe and happy. It is the result of the nurturing relationships our staff build with children, alongside the close partnerships we maintain with parents and partners, ensuring consistently high levels of attainment and achievement across all stages.

Children are very proud of their school and Early Learning and Childcare Class. This sense of pride is equally shared by parents and staff, who are deeply committed to supporting our continued success.

Councillor Emma Rodden, Education Convener for Renfrewshire Council, praised the report. She said:

This inspection report is a real credit to Bushes Primary School and Early Learning and Childcare Class. The strong leadership and high-quality teaching shines through clearly in the report.

Children are benefitting from the warm, nurturing environment. Hearing that they are proud, happy and feel safe shows the work the team put in to supporting them. This is also shown through the high standards of learning children achieve.

Everyone at the school should be proud of this achievement. Their commitment to delivering positive outcomes for children is evident.

Janie O’Neill, Director of Children’s Services, said:

This is a first-class inspection report for Bushes Primary School and Early Learning and Childcare Class. It highlights the nurturing relationships, the strong leadership of the Headteacher, and the high-quality learning and teaching.

I am particularly pleased to see such consistently high levels of attainment and the positive, inclusive environment created for children and families. The success reflects the dedication and commitment of Mr McCrorie, the Head Teacher, and his staff and the pride which children have in Bushes Primary School and ELCC.
