Thousands celebrate Paisley Halloween Festival

Paisley Halloween Festival Bloco Winnoch

Spooky season descended on Paisley at the weekend as thousands of visitors turned out for the annual Halloween Festival.

The Halloween parade was once again the main spectacle of Paisley Halloween Festival with visitors gathering in the town centre to enjoy the show.

The free to attend event, saw hundreds of professional performers and community groups participate in the parade, which was inspired by a haunted house theme this year, that wove through the town centre on Friday night.

Some of the parade highlights included a giant haunted house float, Frankenstein puppet, giant spider and sea creatures.

There was plenty of activities on to entertain the crowds including the funfair at the Lagoon Car Park and East End Park, live performances in County Square, street performances in the town centre, marshmallow toasting, arts and craft sessions and spooky light shows and inflatable monster installations on some of the town’s most well-known buildings.

Paisley Halloween Festival is delivered by Renfrewshire Council's events team in partnership with performance specialists Cirque Bijou and lighting experts Woodroffe Bassett Design.

Due to a severe weather warning over the weekend, the event on Saturday 24 October was cancelled.

Pauline Allan, Renfrewshire Council’s Events Manager, said it was disappointing to have to cancel Saturday’s popular event.

We were really sorry we had to cancel that date due to the severe weather forecast, but ensuring a safe event for our performers, attendees and all those who work so hard to make the event happen is our priority.

While the weekend’s weather wasn’t the best all round, we were delighted it didn’t dampen everyone’s spooky spirits on the Friday evening and our performers and all those taking part got to showcase some of the amazing performances and costumes they had been preparing in advance.

The next major event to take place in Paisley town centre will be Paisley’s Christmas Lights Switch On event on Saturday 14 November, with plenty of Christmas family fun including arts and crafts workshops, magical light tunnels and a funfair. Visitors will also be able to enjoy exciting street entertainment and performances throughout the day from local acts, with Skippinish taking to the main stage at 4.30pm ahead of the big switch on moment at 6pm.

The winter events keep on coming with Christmas Light Switch-On events taking place in Linwood on Thursday 19 November, Renfrew on Saturday 21 November, Erskine on Friday 27 November, and Johnstone on Saturday 28 November.
