Every Renfrewshire home will have new bin collection days from Monday 7 September 2026.
How often each bin is collected is not changing.
Household information packs, with letters setting out the changes and new collection schedules are arriving at homes from Friday 21 August.
This comes as collection crews move onto the most effective bin collection routes and will be collecting the same colour of bin across the region each day.
Councillor Jacqueline Cameron, Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Infrastructure, Land and Environment Policy Board, said:
We want to provide Renfrewshire residents with the best possible bin collection service, and these changes will further modernise and improve how we do this across 93,000 homes.
We’ll be collecting bins on different days and residents should look out for their information packs through their letterboxes, giving them everything they need to know.
And for anyone who gets our help to put their bins out, we’ll continue this service automatically, so they don’t need to do anything.
Most homes will now have two bin collection days instead of one.
The blue, green or brown recycling bin will be collected on one day and the grey general waste bin will be collected on a different day.
This follows a successful pilot across 10,000 homes since 2025.
There are 1500 homes in rural and difficult to access locations being moved onto the standard collection frequency.
As well as changes to wheelie bins, bulk bins at flats will be emptied on different days, with people living in these buildings seeing this applied automatically.
And the Council’s commercial waste customers are receiving bespoke information with their new collection days.
It’s the latest in a series of improvements modernising bin collections and waste and recycling across Renfrewshire:
- website developments let people look up their collections online, download collection schedules, add collection dates to phones and get email reminders
- Zero Waste Scotland funding helped the council give 80,000 homes food waste recycling packs and improve recycling at more than 8,000 flats, while 6,000 more homes now have the council’s full recycling service
- small electrical items can now be recycled at libraries through partnership with Material Focus and larger items at our household waste recycling centres
- new, in-cab technology is supporting collection crews and providing customer service teams with real-time information.
Councillor Cameron added:
We’re committed to doing everything we can to drive improvements and support residents to recycle for Renfrewshire.
These latest measures will mean less bins to put out on each collection day and will help keep pavements clearer. It also means our collection crews are on the most effective routes, reducing our carbon emissions and fuel costs.
