Erskine pupils celebrate learning in Book Week Scotland event

Pupils in Barsail Primary School, Erskine, held a special book café event to celebrate Book Week Scotland.

Families were invited into the school to read books and enjoy a hot drink. Children enjoyed strawberry or chocolate milk.

Children and adults read together, explored ‘book tasters’, and designed bookmarks. They also took snaps in a photo booth and tried out AI-based character activities.

Class teacher Sara Casey said:

We were thrilled to welcome families to our event! It was an incredible, fun-filled way to celebrate the joy of reading, spark creativity and enjoy quality time together. Watching children and parents laugh, read and explore stories side by side was truly magical.

A huge shout-out to our amazing Literacy Leaders, who shone in their leadership roles and loved seeing their peers and families enjoying the event. Dedicating time to promote reading for pleasure and getting our pupils excited about books was fantastic. This is exactly what Book Week is all about!

Head teacher Emma Mavers added:

Our family learning event was part of the Book Week Scotland celebrations in Barsail Primary. It was a very popular and enjoyable event which helped promote reading for pleasure.

Pupil leadership was developed through this event as our ‘Literacy Leader’ children led activities and stalls. We are grateful to all of the local coffee shops as they donated merchandise to bring the theme to life.

A special thank you to the Literacy Leaders and to teachers Sara Casey, Phoebe Matthews, and Mrs Sinclair for organising the event.
