Update on P1 registration process for Dargavel parents and carers

Dear parents and carers,

I am writing to provide an update on the timetable for our new P1 registration process, which begins in November.

We will shortly be opening our admissions for new P1s for the next school year. Registration will take place online in November through the Renfrewshire Council website from 1 to 7 November. How to apply for a P1 school place

Admissions process

There are 75 spaces available at Dargavel for the August 2024 session.  Applications will be prioritised in the order as set out in Appendix C of our Admissions to School and Placing Requests policy.

In line with this policy, catchment allocations will be decided by the end of January 2024. Parents and carers will be notified at this time whether your child has been allocated a place at Dargavel Primary School either by the Headteacher if successful or by the Council's Admissions team, if unsuccessful.

Ballot process

Where requests are oversubscribed, a ballot for the available spaces will be held. The approach for this is detailed at Appendix F of the policy.

Once all remaining places are filled, and if you are unsuccessful in securing a catchment space for your child, then your application is put on a waiting list (in the order drawn from the ballot process).  Your application then becomes what we term as a "re-direct".

Under the re-direct process, we would then look to allocate a place at the nearest school where there are spaces available.  This will be Bishopton Primary School. In this case, you would not need to submit a placing request application for Bishopton Primary, as Renfrewshire Council's Children's Services team will contact you regarding your next steps.

If someone does not wish to take a place allocated at Dargavel Primary School, this space will be allocated to the order of the waiting list.

Placing requests

If you do not wish your child to attend your catchment school and intend to put in a placing request for a different school, you must still register your child in November at your catchment primary, ie either Dargavel St John Bosco Primary School.

After that, you should make a placing request to attend the school of your choice.  This request will be considered in line with our placing request allocations policy.

Decisions on placing requests are not made until after 15 March. The legislative deadline for letting you know is by 30 April, but we would aim to let you know as soon as possible.

I hope this is helpful however, if you have any further questions, you can contact a member of our team by email to admissionsandtransfers@renfrewshire.gov.uk

Thank you.
