About Renfrewshire

We are home to Scotland's largest town in Paisley, as well as four other key centres in Erskine, Linwood, Johnstone and Renfrew. We are also home to Scotland's major shopping destination at Braehead.

We lie immediately west of Glasgow City, sitting at the strategic cross-roads of the wider City Region (GCR), an economic and social partnership of eight Local Authorities. Collectively, we account for one-third of Scotland's economic output and one-third of its population.

We are a connected place, with Glasgow Airport, one of the UK's busiest passenger and freight hubs, acting as a major centre for economic activity and inward investment. We are a major transportation hub, with road and rail connections across Scotland and the wider United Kingdom - making us a key destination for freight and logistics businesses.

We have a highly skilled and qualified labour force which is supported by key local educational institutions UWS and WCS as well as the University of Strathclyde.

We also offer a range of business support and advice to both new and established businesses and are complimented by an excellent Chamber of Commerce.

We are committed to Net Zero and have recently launched the first phase of Renfrewshire's Plan for Net Zero which sets out how the area will work towards net zero by 2030.

Advanced manufacturing and innovation

We are investing to ensure that we have the world leading infrastructure, skills, and connectivity to compete, innovate and thrive. This includes growing our reputation for manufacturing by ensuring that Renfrewshire is synonymous with advanced manufacturing and innovation. Using City Deal funding to deliver enabling infrastructure, we have formed a joint-venture partnership to launch the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District Scotland (AMIDS) which will further embed Renfrewshire's reputation as Scotland's leading advanced manufacturing cluster.

AMIDS is supported by two new leading anchor institutions:

NMIS and MMIC are hubs for innovation, research and industry collaboration. AMIDS has considerable support from the Scottish and UK Governments who have each invested heavily within the district as part of their innovation and cluster development plans.

Commercial space and key areas of employment

Beyond AMIDS we have significant amounts of established commercial space and key areas of employment at:

  • Hillington (Scotland's largest business park)
  • Inchinnan (home to major employers such as Rolls Royce and Terumo Aortic)
  • Westway (where Doosan Babcock have a major centre).

All of the above have significant land and opportunities for new or existing companies to locate and expand into
