St David's Primary School has opened its doors to the wider community, hosting its annual CommuniTEA to bring together families, partners, residents from a local care home, and other friends of the school.
Organised by the Community Citizenship Group, the event is a thoughtful expression of gratitude and togetherness, led by the pupils themselves and rooted in the school's core values.
Now in its second year, CommuniTEA has quickly become a much-loved tradition at St David's. Pupils choose a theme that reflects what matters most to them.
Last year, they honoured older members of the community, including grandparents and great-grandparents.
This year, the celebration grew to include dedicated local partners that work closely with the school and support pupils and families in so many ways.
Guests included representatives from the Police and Fire Service, the Council's Family Wellbeing services and Adult and Family Learning team, the Parent Council, and parish volunteers from St Margaret's Church, who support the school's First Communion preparations.
The event also helped build connections across generations, with residents from Ranfurly Care Home joining in the fun.
As part of Community Week in June, pupils will return the gesture by visiting the care home to perform for residents.
Jane Houston, teacher at St David's Primary School, said:
This was our way of saying thank you, we see you and appreciate everything you do.
Community is one of our school's core values, and our children wanted to show that through kindness, respect and celebration. They planned this event from start to finish.
Every class took part, with pupils performing songs and stories inspired by recent classwork and social studies topics, allowing pupils to build confidence and show-off their talents.
The audience sang along to performances of beloved classics like 'We'll Meet Again' and 'Goodnight, Sweetheart, Goodnight', then pupils wowed everyone by singing in Gaelic before playing a delightful rendition of 'Hot Cross Buns' on the recorder.
Hope, Primary 7 pupil, said:
We really wanted to give back to the community and our St David's family. Everyone who came really enjoyed it.
CommuniTea reflects our schools' strong commitment to helping children develop skills in leadership and finding value in community.
The event was made possible by generous donations from local businesses including Tesco, Henderson's Flowers, Morrisons, Elderslie Café, and A+A Bakeries, who all helped create a real 'afternoon tea' feel, complete with tablecloths, china and plenty of smiles.
Jessica, Primary 7 pupil, said:
We wanted to say a big thank you for everything the community does for us, and we all wanted to do something you would enjoy. You are all part of our St David's family.
