New Thorn Primary School update

Dear parent or carer

I am writing to update you on progress to build a new Thorn Primary School, as you may have seen this discussed recently.

You may be aware the council had previously set aside £10m for this project, and was waiting on the outcome of a bid to the Scottish Government for other funding.

That funding bid wasn’t successful but I can confirm that councillors – at their annual budget meeting earlier this month – agreed to borrow the rest of the funds needed to deliver a new school, meaning the project is now confirmed and can move forward.

Although planning is at a very early stage, from initial work done to date our preferred option is to build a new school on the same site as the current one and move pupils across when complete. Timescales for this to happen are still being worked through.

We are keen to involve the school community in the project as it moves forward and we will keep you updated on progress.

Yours sincerely

Gerry Lyons

Interim Head of Education
