Strike action—1 November 2023

Dear Parent or Carer,

Further to my previous update on how upcoming strike action on Wednesday 1 November will affect Renfrewshire schools and nurseries, I can now confirm arrangements with you for secondary senior phase pupils.

Our teams have done extensive work to open buildings for S4–S6 pupils. However, it is with regret that I advise we are unable to open all secondary schools for senior phase pupils as we do not have the appropriate number of janitorial staff to do this.

This means that 7 out of 11 secondary schools will be closed to all pupils on the strike day.

Secondary schools closed on the strike day

The following schools will be closed to all pupils:

  • Castlehead High
  • Gryffe High
  • Johnstone High
  • Paisley Grammar
  • Park Mains High
  • Renfrew High
  • Trinity High.

If your child’s school is listed above, you will be contacted by the school with any school specific information and learning for the strike day.

Secondary schools open on the strike day

Due to different cleaning, catering and janitorial arrangements in these buildings, the following schools will be open on the strike day to S4–S6 pupils only:

  • Gleniffer High
  • Linwood High
  • St Andrew’s Academy
  • St Benedict's High.

All S1–S3 pupils will not be able to attend school on the strike day.

Your school will be in touch on Monday with specific information.

Other information

All other arrangements for nursery, primary and ASN schools will be closed, as stated in my previous letter.

Schools and nurseries will be open on Thursday 2 November as normal.

If there are any changes to the above, we will keep you updated.

Yours sincerely,

Julie Calder
