Dargavel education update
Dear parent or carer,
I wanted to update you on work to modify the nursery to create more indoor learning space for children, progress made towards a new additional primary school in Dargavel and the replacement of a classroom block in Bishopton Primary.
Dargavel ELCC extension
Work to create additional indoor learning space for children at Dargavel Early Learning and Childcare Centre will be completed shortly. An existing covered outdoor play area is being modified to provide an extension to the existing building, which will increase the overall indoor space available and allow an additional 24 children to attend the centre.
An additional external covered learning area is being installed in the outdoor nursery space so that children can continue to enjoy a sheltered outdoor learning space.
New primary school space planning
Our space planning specialists, Space Zero, have now completed their surveys with Dargavel Primary School parents and carers and the wider community on the new primary school.
Parents and carers were asked for their views on the high-quality learning environment within the new school, and the wider community were asked about how the school could be used as a valuable community space out of school hours.
More than 600 responses have been received so far and Space Zero have also visited Dargavel Primary School with council officers to assess how the current building operates. This insight will inform the design process for the new school.

Site investigations of preferred site
Following agreement with BAE Systems, the council is now able to access the preferred site to conduct site investigations on the land. This includes testing the land to ensure it meets the required standards for building a school.
A full report on these investigations is expected to be completed in December and we will keep you updated.
Bishopton Primary replacement classroom block
As part of our regular programme of ongoing school maintenance we will be replacing the existing classroom block at Bishopton Primary School with a new one which will provide an enhanced learning experience for pupils, covered outdoor learning space, and improved internal facilities like those based at Dargavel Primary School.
This will be a permanent facility and it will be installed ahead of the new school year starting in August 2024.
This will replace the existing classroom block and another temporary unit used for storage will be removed.
