Statement from Emma Henry, Head of Education, to parents and carers of pupils at Rashielea Primary School:
Dear parent or carer,
I wanted to update you on some weather-related issues we have had at Rashielea Primary today, and let you know how these are being managed by the school.
The heavy rain last night saw some water enter the building via the roof, which has affected the lighting and power supply to one side of the school. As a result, the school have moved some classes to the other side of the building, which still has full power and lighting. The school has enough spare teaching space we could do this with minimal disruption to learning and teaching.
Health and safety officers from the council have been at the school this morning and confirmed they are happy with the set-up. The school’s heating system is working well, the kitchen remains in use, and there are enough toilets for everyone in the school to use while we work on the part of the building affected.
Council facilities management staff and other contractors are also in the building working to clean/remove water, repair the water damage and assess the roof. They are aiming to get the whole school back up and running as soon as we can, however this may take a couple of days.
There will be no changes to the school day, or to the breakfast club or after-school care, which will run as normal. However the Active Schools classes planned for this week (netball tonight and basketball tomorrow) have been cancelled.
We will keep you informed of any changes and we appreciate your patience while we fix these issues.
Kind regards
Emma Henry
Head of Education
