Charleston Square - homes for young care leavers

The accommodation development at 16 Charleston Square is especially designed for young people leaving care.

It consists of :

  • 10 individual, modern, one bedroom flats and
  • 24 hour support hub

Vision Statement / Aim

We provide supported accommodation comprising 10 individual, self-contained flats for care experienced young people aged between 16-25 years. Our staff team offer 24/7 care and support to help residents/tenants to develop life skills, form positive relationships, and achieve their personal goals. We believe that young people thrive when they feel safe and loved and are trusted to safely learn from their choices and experiences. We want our residents/tenants to move on from our care as happy young adults, ready to seize the opportunities life has to offer. We anticipate that you would live with us for around 12 months and make the best possible use of your time with us, by seizing the opportunity to learn and engage in your plan.

Objectives

  • To support young people to develop their independence and prepare for adult life while keeping them safe in a homely and nurturing environment.
  • We recognise the key role of positive relationships in enabling young people to make a success of independent living. During the young person's tenancy, we use a key-worker approach to build trusting relationships, and facilitate a shared, welcoming space (The Hub) where residents/tenants can feel part of our wider service and connected to their neighbours. We do this by offering a wide variety of structured activities to bring young people together and inspire interest and talents.
  • We will also support our young people to identify areas of their life they would like to develop, such as flat maintenance, budgeting and education, and signpost you to other services you may need.
  • To enable our young people to feel ready for and optimistic about their move to full independence by supporting their emotional wellbeing and resilience and equipping them with key practical skills.
  • To offer an outreach service to young people in the community who may benefit from the sense of community that the service provides or from individual support in the community.

It is also a Stepping Stone for young people to move forward to their own tenancies in the future.
