Where to get help to make your Universal Credit claim online

Here you will find advice on how you can get online.

Universal Credit claims must be made and maintained online. If you do not have your own PC, tablet or smartphone, there are other places you can get online for free.

Computer access

There are public computers you can use in:

  • All of Renfrewshire's Libraries. Drop in, or book in advance by calling 0300 300 1188.
  • Renfrewshire House and Johnstone Town Hall, in the reception areas. There is no need to book these - just drop in during opening times.
  • Jobcentre Plus offices. These are offered on a first-come, first-served basis but you can check there is a computer free by calling 0800 169 0190 and asking for your local office.

Free wifi

Renfrewshire Council has also invested in free public wifi in town centres. The service is available 24/7, 365 days a year, in the outdoor town centres of Johnstone, Renfrew and Paisley.

For details of the areas covered and lists of the other public buildings where free public wifi is available, click on free public wifi under 'related articles'.

Lots of shops, cafes and restaurants in Renfrewshire's town centres also have free customer wifi.

If you need more help

You should contact your work coach or local Jobcentre Plus if you need help to make or maintain your claim online. If you need 'Help to Claim' call Citizens Advice Bureau on 0800 023 2581 to make an appointment for assistance.

There are volunteers based in Renfrewshire Libraries who can help you get online. The Digiteers can help with basic IT skills, internet, emailing and job searches. This service is free and can be accessed through the libraries by calling 0300 300 1188 or asking at your local library. Click on Digiteers under 'related links' for more information.
