Junk mail
Avoid junk mail in the first place by getting your household taken off marketing lists (and don't sign up for any more).
You can register with the Mailing Preference Service to reduce unsolicited mail. The MPS will prevent the receipt of unsolicited direct mailings sent from member companies of the Direct Marketing Association and will take steps to prevent the receipt of unsolicited direct mailings from companies which are non-DMA members.
Telephone directories
These are collected by most councils and can be put in your recycling bin. To save paper you can cancel your telephone directory home delivery as follows:
- Yellow Pages, call Freephone 0800 671 444
- Thomsons Local, call 01252 390990.
Newspapers, magazines, advertising leaflets, small brochures, envelopes (without windows) and paper- these are widely collected by most councils and can be put in your recycling bin or brought along to one of our mini recycling or household waste recycling centres.
