Fats

Small amounts of cooking oil can be disposed of with the rest of your household rubbish in your grey bin. If possible, allow it to solidify by cooling down before throwing it away.

DO NOT pour cooking oil down the drain as it causes problems when it solidifies.

You can reduce the amount that escapes down the sink by putting a strainer or sieve over your plughole.

Scottish water has prepared a handy guide to disposing of cooking fats. You can access it through their website at scottishwater.co.uk

Only large amounts of cooking oil from restaurants or factories can be collected for recycling.
