Renfrewshire Council

Renfrewshire Local Housing Strategy (LHS) 2016-2021

The Local Housing Strategy (LHS) covering the period 2016-2021 was approved by the Housing and Community Safety Policy Board on 24th January 2017.

The Local Housing Strategy (LHS) sets out how the Council and partners intend to jointly meet housing need in Renfrewshire through identified key outcomes, these outcomes are:

  • The supply of housing is increased.

  • Through targeted investment and regeneration activity, Renfrewshire has attractive and sustainable neighbourhoods and well functioning town centres.

  • People live in high quality, well managed homes.

  • Homes are Energy Efficient and Fuel Poverty is minimised.

  • Homelessness is prevented and vulnerable people get the advice and support they need.

  • People are able to live independently for as long as possible in their own home.

  • Affordable housing is accessible to people who need it.

The LHS sets out the strategic vision for the future of housing across all tenures, taking account of national priorities, setting out how the standard of housing will be improved and also provides clear strategic direction for housing investment over the next five years.

Renfrewshire's Community Plan, Single Outcome Agreement and the Council Plan outline the priorities of the Council and its Community Planning Partners. The LHS sits firmly within this partnership framework and plays an important role in helping deliver the vision for Renfrewshire.

The LHS was informed by two housing need and demand studies: Clydeplan's Housing Need and Demand Assessment 2 and Anna Evans Housing Consultancy Ltd Housing Need and Demand Assessment.
