Animal bedding

Hay, straw and sawdust can also be added to your home compost bin. Pet waste such as cat litter should be bagged and put in the general waste bin.

There are different types of animal bedding and they need to be got rid of in different ways:

  • Old pet blankets or beds made from fabric can be recycled with textiles at a one of our recycling centres.
  • Used hay, straw and sawdust bedding from 'vegetarian' animals such as rabbits or guinea pigs can be put in your household garden waste collection (if this service is offered in your area).
  • Alternatively, it can be taken to a recycling centre (also known as the 'tip') and recycled with garden waste.
  • Hay, straw and sawdust can also be added to your home compost bin
  • Pet waste such as cat litter should be bagged and put in the general waste bin
