Aluminium cans

These items go in your green bin.

These items can be placed in your green bin or in one of our mixed recycling container at our recycling points or our household waste recycling centres.

Aluminium cans are 100% recyclable and can be reprocessed again and again without loss of quality.

Remember to rinse and squash your aluminium cans where possible.

To help us recycle drink cans wherever we are the Every Can Counts campaign is working hard with a range of organizations to provide drink cans recycling facilities.

Did you know, one in every three drinks cans sold in the UK are drunk away from home?

The metal these cans are made from is endlessly recyclable, so it's important that it is saved rather than thrown away, especially when you consider that each can could be recycled and be back on sale as another can - in just 60 days.

Recycling aluminium uses only around 5% of the energy and emissions needed to make it from the raw material bauxite. The metal can be recycled time and time again without loss of properties, so getting the aluminium recycling habit is one of the best things we can do for the environment. For this reason recycling is part of the normal lifecycle for large industrial products - around 75% of all the aluminium ever made is still in circulation.

Aluminium cans are shredded, removing any colour coating. They are then melted in a huge furnace. The molten metal is poured into ingot casts to set. Each ingot can be made into around 1.5 million cans.

These items are recycled and made into new metal products.
