Residents encouraged to check if they're entitled to pension credits
If you or someone you know is over the State Pension age, it might be worth checking if you are entitled to Pension Credit.
Thousands of pensioners in Renfrewshire are missing out by not claiming Pension Credit, which can boost income on average up to £3,900 per year.
With the UK and Scottish Governments both announcing that this winter the Winter Fuel Payment will only be paid to those household in receipt of qualifying low-income benefits, it is worth checking out if you can claim Pension Credit.
Renfrewshire Citizens Advice Bureau and the Council's Advice Works team both have appointments with impartial advisors. These usually last an hour and take place over the phone.
Get an appointment from Monday 9 to Friday 13 September at either 10am, 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 2pm or 3pm.
Book an appointment online (Advice Renfrewshire)
Appointments can also be made by calling Advice Works on 0300 300 1238 or Renfrewshire Citizens Advice Bureau on 0141 889 2121.
As well as making you eligible for the Winter Fuel Payment, other things Pension Credits gives you access to are:
- help with rent and Council Tax
- a free TV Licence for those aged 75 or over
- help with the cost of NHS services, such as NHS dental treatment, glasses and transport costs for hospital appointments.
Other benefits you might be entitled to receive include:
- Housing Benefit
- Council Tax Reduction
- Attendance Allowance
- Funeral Support Payment
- Discretionary Housing Payment.
Both The Council's Advice Works and Renfrewshire Citizens Advice Bureau can also help people of any age get advice on money, the cost of living, energy bills and much more.
