Hear from the team behind Renfrewshire's Summer of Fun

Helping local families to keep the kids busy all summer

Head and shoulders shot of woman standing outdoors smiling to camera Andrena Falkner and the Fairer Renfrewshire team have worked with community and voluntary organisations across Renfrewshire to develop a programme of free, fun activities for children, young people and families.

"The Summer of Fun programme helps children try new experiences and visit new places they might not otherwise have the chance to do," said Andrena. "This year, we have 21 projects offering a range of activities and day trips, such as scuba diving, African drumming, music, arts, and plenty of sports."

Funded through our Fairer Renfrewshire programme, the team collaborate with local organisations and community groups to offer up a wide variety of activities for different age groups across the area.

Activities include lunch or snacks (depending on duration) and aims to help families keep kids and teens occupied during school holidays.

Andrena says: "It's a fantastic programme to work on because of the immediate impact on families, children, and young people. The kids get to learn new skills, make friends, be creative, gain confidence and create memories with their families.

"My favourite part is receiving valuable feedback so we can continue to develop the programme and make any changes needed. It's a joy to get positive comments from parents and photos of happy, smiling children and young people enjoying their summer break."

There's still plenty of time for families to get involved with Summer of Fun activities 2024. To check out what's on, go to our webpage on free activities for families, children and young people (Summer of Fun).
