Douglas Street nursery celebrates 70th birthday
Douglas Street Early Learning and Childcare Centre has celebrated its 70th birthday with a special event for parents, carers and kids.
Parents and carers were invited to a party at the nursery with the kids. There was a bouncy castle (provided for free by Ace Bouncy Castles), face painting, beat the goalie, an entertainer and balloon maker, ice cream and much more. All kids got a medal and a goodie bag.
There was also a free tombola with prizes donated by St Mirren, local shops and businesses and support from the Ferguslie events team.
Renfrewshire Provost Lorraine Cameron provided a civic buffet for the occasion.
Bernie Hassan, acting head of centre, said: "On behalf of myself and Pamela McLaughlin (head of centre), we feel privileged to be part of a service that has served the community of Paisley for 70 years, many generations of families have returned and are still returning today, to a place that holds strong community links and history within the Paisley area."
Ann Marie Steets added: "I have worked at Douglas Street nursery for over 20 years and have seen many changes over my years here. We are proud of the strong sense of belonging we have within our community, where people make meaningful connections and strong relationships. I feel very privileged to a part of this amazing service."
Morgan Vandal also added: "I've been a member of staff at Douglas Street for 10 years now and it's been amazing to see positive changes as well as continuing the amazing practice that has went on over the 70 years. The celebrations gave families time to come together with staff."
Provost Cameron said: "Congratulations to the staff, parents and children at Douglas Street on the very special occasion of your 70th anniversary. Any nursery school could not be successful without a wonderful staff and I thank you all from everyone in Renfrewshire for you hard work throughout your 70 glorious years."
