Network users: Check your H Drive for files you want to keep

Move to OneDrive for easy and secure file storage

From the end of this month, the H Drive on our network will change and will no longer support file storage.

If you have files on your H Drive, it's time to give them a new home in OneDrive and it's essential that everyone moves the files they want to keep before Friday 28 July.

You may see some system related folders inside your H Drive. We need you to leave the one called 'CitrixRedir' where it is. If you see it, please don't touch it. Everything else in your H Drive will be deleted on 28 July.

Making the switch is as easy as 1, 2, 3:

  1. Open the Windows start button, at the bottom left of your screen, and select File Explorer. Once opened, scroll down until you find your H drive folder, it's the one with your network username - e.g., if your name is Amy Smith, it will look like 'fcsmitha1' and it ends with '(H:)'.
  2. To save the files you want to keep, right click on them, and select 'Cut'. Remember to leave 'CitrixRedir' where it is!
  3. Scroll up the left-hand menu until you see 'OneDrive - Renfrewshire Council' and paste your rescued files in there.

Working better for you

OneDrive is your own unique piece of cloud storage. It comes with our Microsoft Office 365 subscription, so you know it's reliable. No more worries about losing files when your device misbehaves. Plus, the less you clutter up your device's storage, the better it performs, so it's win-win!

Other benefits include:

  • Super-sized file sharing. OneDrive lets you share files, both internally and externally, that are too large to attach to an email.
  • You're in control. You can set the permissions on your files to decide who can view and edit each one when you share it.
  • Collaboration at its finest. With the share function, you can work on a document together with your colleagues, making and seeing each other's changes in real-time.

Guidance and support

Our head of digital, transformation and customer services Patrick Murray has kindly shared some easy-to-follow step-by-step guidance with all network users. It will help you understand how to use and set up OneDrive if you haven't done so already. If you are a network user with a corporate email address ending @renfrewshire.gov.uk, you should have already received this.

If you really want to get the most out of our Office 365 package, check out the 'Learn' tab in Microsoft Teams. Look for the jigsaw icon on the left-hand column and open it to uncover a treasure trove of info, including OneDrive Basics and guidance for other useful Office 365 stuff like Microsoft Planner.

Our ICT colleagues appreciate your cooperation as they work hard to upgrade our file storage system. Thanks to their efforts and the great features of OneDrive, collaboration, accessibility, and data security at Renfrewshire Council are all set to reach new heights!

If you have any questions or need assistance, you should ask your line manager in the first instance. If you are still stuck, just pop a request on the ICT Self Service Desk and someone will be in touch to help.
