Renfrewshire Council

Change to garden waste collections

From 10 July 2023, if you live in Renfrewshire and wish to continue to receive a garden waste collection, you will need a permit.

As you will be aware, much like household costs, the cost of services we provide are increasing significantly due to inflation, increased cost of materials, energy and fuel costs.

Given the significant increase to our costs, and decrease in our funding, we need to significantly reduce our annual spending over the next three years.

To address our financial challenge, we agreed a range of workstreams with elected members, to help us make the necessary savings.

As part of that work, elected members have agreed to introduce a charge for the collection of garden waste. This is in line with two-thirds of other local authorities who provide a garden waste collection and currently charge for the service, including neighbouring Inverclyde and East Renfrewshire.

From 10 July 2023, if you live in Renfrewshire and wish to continue to receive a garden waste collection, you will need to pay for a permit.

It will cost £40 and should be applied for before 25 June 2023 to ensure it is in place before the new service starts. You can apply after this date, and we will issue your permit within 10 working days.

You can apply for your permit and find out all you need to know on our public website.
