Cycle2Work scheme now open
Looking for a healthier, sustainable way to travel? Our Cycle2Work scheme for employees, in partnership with Halfords, could be right up your street.
With discounted cycling equipment, no upfront costs and monthly payments, it's one of our most popular employee benefits. Available to council employees and elected members, you can apply regardless of whether you're currently working in an office, school, hub, hybrid or out in the community.
Our HR & OD adviser, Fiona Sinclair, tells us how it works and what you can expect:
"Cycle2Work is a salary sacrifice scheme, so you can save quite a bit on leasing a new bike and accessories. Depending on your tax rate, that can mean up to 42 per cent discount with the cost spread over 12 monthly payments.
"We've been getting lots of queries about when Cycle2Work was opening again so it's great to be able to offer it as a year-round benefit now and there's a great range of equipment to choose from, including e-bikes too."
After the 12 months are up, there are a range of options to choose from depending on what you want to do next. Fiona explains,
"At the end of the hire period, Halfords will contact you to discuss the next steps. This can include extending the hire at no additional cost until HMRC deem the value to be negligible. This is typically 4 or 5 years, and once this agreement has finished you will become the owner of the bike or equipment."
