Raising funds for women in Malawi
Support for the women of Nedala Village
Elaine with fellow volunteers and local women
Operations manager, Elaine Scott is taking orders for her homemade tablet to raise funds for women in Malawi. This year, her delicious range offers a unique tablet Easter egg, a 1kg tray and smaller 100g bag.
Every piece of tablet she sells will help fund the trip to bring valuable support to local women in rural communities. Run by women for women, the ongoing project has become an important part of the community, where they can come together to learn and share their skills.
Elaine explains, "Many families can't buy new clothing and don't have the materials or the skills to mend what they have. Through previous trips to Malawi, we've provided sewing machines, needles and thread and taught women how to make and repair clothing and other items that can also be sold at a local market.
"The women in the photo made personalised fabric bags - they were so proud of them. We learned later that most of them had never owned a bag and were using the ones they made with us to keep important documents, like birth certificates and vaccine records, safe. It's pretty moving how much of an impact this all makes."
Elaine will be travelling to Nedala Village in May and hopes tablet sales will help her continue this valuable volunteering work.
