Renfrewshire Council

Help us keep data on track

To help us understand how well our organisation currently collects, stores and analyses data, we're conducting a survey with all staff who use a council laptop, tablet or PC in their day-to-day role.

Renfrewshire Data Maturity Assessment Survey

We're working with the Scottish Government Digital Team to assess and improve our use of data. This will benefit all colleagues and help deliver better outcomes for people across Renfrewshire.

The survey will take around 20 minutes to complete and we recommend you do this is one sitting with a reliable internet connection.

We know that some HSCP staff will have completed a similar exercise last year however we would appreciate participation as this will give us an updated picture across all of the Council and social care services.

The closing date for survey responses is Friday 23 December 2022.

It's important to share your views on data

No matter what role we do, we are all going to benefit from consistency in how we record, store, and maintain our data. By completing this survey, you are adding your own personal experience of using data in a typical working day. Please be assured that there are no right or wrong answers and it's fine to say 'don't know' or 'not applicable'.

What we mean by data

Data is all the types of information we collect, store, analyse, and use. Data helps us to make informed decisions about how we can best use our resources and deliver better outcomes and value for money for the public. It can be recorded in many formats such as numbers, text, images, video and maps. For example, it might include information about the people you serve and how you engage with them and other stakeholders: financial information (costs, income): details of project progress etc.

Our survey objectives

Are to highlight our gaps across culture, process, policies, technologies and effectiveness, and inform an action plan for improvement.

How we'll manage privacy

Privacy is important. We'll manage this by collecting the information we need solely for the purpose of carrying out and monitoring this project. Personal data will not be retained beyond the life of this work.

Should you wish to find out more about how the Council uses your personal information, please refer to our privacy policy, which can be found on our website:

The independent consultants Data Orchard are acting as data processor for this project, however they will also assume the role of independent data controller for some limited research purposes and their privacy policy can be found at:

Your responses will be combined anonymously with your colleagues at the end of the assessment period to provide a 'whole organisation' report. This will enable our organisation to identify priorities for improvement, see how it's doing compared with other organisations; and provide a baseline from which we can measure progress.

If you have any questions about this survey, please email Data Matters.
