Have your say on Renfrew town centre community hub proposals
Residents, businesses and community groups can back a funding bid for a new community hub in Renfrew town centre.
We have developed initial proposals which are now being shared with the public ahead of an application to the Levelling Up fund this summer.
Community hub
The emerging proposals would bring the vacant former police station back into use and enhance facilities at Renfrew Victory Baths, together providing:
- A Swim Centre, with better pool facilities, spa and wellness centre
- A regional dance, gymnastics and fitness centre for all ages and groups
- A library and learning centre, with digital facilities
- New community space across the hub
Benefits of the bid
Renfrew has an historic vibrant town centre and the new community hub would deliver a range of benefits. It would:
- Provide inclusive modern town centre community facilities
- Bring the vacant police station building back into public use
- Upgrade swim facilities at Renfrew Victory Baths
- Introduce new facilities for dance, gymnastics and fitness for all ages
- Relocate Renfrew Library to the town centre with improved digital facilities
- Complement facilities at Renfrew Town Hall
- Give people more reasons to spend local in Renfrew
Have your say and support the bid
Feedback from the local community is vital in informing the proposals and shaping the next stages.
You can share your views by:
- Visiting the public engagement webpage and complete the online survey
- Emailing messages of support to strategyandplace@renfrewshire.gov.uk
- Visiting Renfrew Victory Baths and view the public exhibition from Tuesday 24 May to Monday 6 June, including weekends (closed Thu 2 June)
- Discuss the proposals in person at a drop-in session at Renfrew Victory Baths on Wednesday 1 June 2022 from 12pm to 5.30pm.
The public's views will feed into a funding application in the second round of the UK Government fund, which supports investment in local infrastructure and community assets.
If successful, further detailed public consultation would be carried out to refine the proposals.
A word from our Chief Economic and Regeneration Officer
Chief Economic and Regeneration Officer George Hunter said: "Development of this town centre community hub would be a fantastic facility for local residents and visitors to Renfrew alike and we are keen to hear what people think about the initial plans.
"Complementing what's on offer at Renfrew Town Hall, the hub would provide inclusive, modern town centre facilities everyone can access, giving people more reasons to spend local in Renfrew and importantly ensure the long-term future of two well-known, historic buildings.
"The Levelling Up fund is a competitive bid process so we are looking for local residents, businesses and community groups to complete the feedback survey and send their support."
