Renfrewshire Council is recruiting two senior roles

We're recruiting two senior roles at Renfrewshire Council: a new director of finance and resources and head of corporate governance.

The council's finance and resources service directorate is one of the largest services within the organisation with a £35.7m revenue budget and approximately 1,200 employees.

The service enables and supports the smooth running and strategic management of the council's key corporate functions: financial, legal, property, ICT, business administration, and human resources. It also provides key frontline customer services and maintains sound audit and governance across the organisation.

Renfrewshire is one of Scotland's larger local authority areas with a population of around 179,000 people. It's a great place to live, work, and learn.

Director of finance and resources

We're looking for exceptional candidates for the role of director of finance and resources, as the previous postholder was recently appointed the council's new chief executive.

As a key member of the council's management team, the successful applicant will report to the chief executive. You'll be expected to make a significant contribution to the organisation's strategic management and be responsible for the management of the council's £449.8m revenue budget.

Working in a climate of change and reducing resources, you will advise the council on financial strategy, provide sound financial advice to elected members, and work with the chief executive to help steer the council through a further period of change and uncertainty.

It's essential that you possess an appropriate professional qualification together with membership of a recognised accounting body, as you will act as the proper officer for the administration of the council's financial affairs in terms of Section 95 of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973.

Head of corporate governance

As head of corporate governance, the successful applicant will report to the director of finance and resources and become a member of council's corporate management team. You'll ensure the delivery of a highly professional and comprehensive range of high-quality legal, governance, and democratic services.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • dealing with the interpretation and application of legislation, standing orders, and other regulatory framework
  • information governance
  • legal support for infrastructure projects
  • litigation and employment law
  • conveyancing
  • contracts and commercial matters
  • debt recovery
  • licensing

It is essential that you possess a LLB Degree (Bachelor of Laws) and a current unrestricted practising certificate from the Law Society of Scotland together with a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice.
