What is changing to your bin collection service?

In Erskine, the areas of Park Mains, Bargarran, North Barr and Rashielee currently on a fortnightly grey bin or sack collection will move in line with the rest of Renfrewshire to a three-weekly collection.

There are no changes to the collection of your recycling bins/sacks or food caddy - or for those on a weekly sack collection.

Why are we changing the bin collection frequency?

The majority of Renfrewshire moved to this service in December 2018, but your area of Erskine only partly moved to the new service as part of a phased approach. This included you receiving a new green bin/sack to support you to recycle more effectively.

Unfortunately, the pandemic delayed the full switchover, but the change taking place now to three-weekly grey bin/sack collections will improve recycling further and ensure we can meet the increasing costs to dispose of waste and the demand for higher-quality recycling.

When will the new service start?

The new service will start week commencing Monday 6th September 2021, but there is no change to your normal collection day. You will receive your new collection calendar before this date.

Will I get a bin/sack collected every week?

Yes, you will still get at least one bin/sack collection every week.

Our research and experience from the rest of Renfrewshire being on this service tells us that using all the bins/sacks provided is sufficient if you are using all of them fully. Splitting your recycling into your green and blue bins/sacks and taking all recycling out of your grey bin/sack will ensure you have sufficient space.

If you have additional waste this can be taken to any of our recycling centres free of charge.

If you live with five or more people, are a family with two or more children in nappies, or have a medical condition that means you produce additional waste, you are be able to request a larger grey bin to support you with this change.

Anyone requiring a larger blue or green recycling bin can request this and it will be provided free of charge to support your efforts to recycle.

If you need support or to request a larger bin, call 0300 300 0380 or email MyBins, but please test the service a few times before doing this.

Are we the only area affected by these changes?

No, the majority of our 90,000 households in Renfrewshire have been on a three-weekly grey bin collection since December 2018.

My recycling bins are not big enough?

Anyone requiring a larger blue or green recycling bin can request this and it will be provided free of charge to support your efforts to recycle.

If you need support or to request a larger bin, call 0300 300 0380 or email MyBins

I am using all my recycling bins, but I still don't have enough room in my grey waste bin.

If you're using all your containers and find that you regularly have excess waste, you can apply for an extra or larger bin.

The standard criteria for a free larger grey bin includes living in a home which has five or more people, being a family with two or more children in nappies, or having a medical condition that creates additional waste. If you meet this, you can request a larger grey bin to support you with the change - but please test the service a few times before doing this.

If you need support or to request a larger bin, call 0300 300 0380 or email mybins@renfrewshire.gov.uk.

Will there be a change to what currently goes in my recycling bins/sacks?

No, there is no change to what goes into your green bin/sack, blue bin/sack or food caddy. Check the stickers on your bins or our website for a full list of items via My Bins.

I currently receive an assisted collection. Will this change affect that?

No, there will be no change to your assisted collection other than the frequency.

Will my collection day change?

No, your collection day will be the same and you will receive a new collection calendar. Please check this carefully to ensure that you present the correct bins.

Where else can I recycle or dispose of waste?

We have five household waste recycling centres in the following locations:

  • Erskine, Barrhill Road, PA8 6BU
  • Johnstone, Miller Street, PA5 8HP
  • Linwood, Middleton Road, PA3 3DP
  • Paisley, Underwood Road, PA3 1TL
  • Renfrew, Haining Road, PA4 0AJ

For the full list of items that can be recycled at the household waste recycling centres, visit: Recycling Centres.

I still use sacks for my waste, can I request bins instead?

Yes, if you wish to change from sacks to bins you can request this by calling 0300 300 0380 or emailing MyBins.

Why don't I have a brown bin?

Unfortunately, we aren't able to provide the full range of collection services to all properties due to the type of housing or access issues for our collection vehicles.  A weekly food waste service is provided across Park Mains, Bargarran, North Barr and Rashielee and any garden waste can be recycled at your closest household waste recycling centre.

How do I organise a special uplift?

We can pick up large bulky items of household waste and rubbish from your home like cookers, fridges and furniture. There's a standard charge for each uplift, payable in advance. If you're a council tenant, two uplifts per year are included in your rent.

You can arrange an uplift via Special Uplift or by calling 0300 300 0300.

I'm a new resident — how do I arrange to get my rubbish and recycling bins?
