Self-isolation support grant

What the self-isolation support grant is, who can and can't apply for it, how to apply, If you've already applied or need more help with applying.

If you develop symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19), you should follow the current government advice on testing and staying at home


Who can apply for the grant

The grant is available if you you are a low paid worker, or you claim certain benefits, and you will lose income because you need to stay at home.

You can only apply for the grant if:

  • you have a positive PCR test result
  • someone you care for has a positive PCR test.

Who can't apply for the grant

You can't apply for the grant if you are a close contact of someone who has tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19).


How to apply for the grant

You can apply online for a self-isolation support grant on the Scottish Government website. 

You can do this any time within 28 days from the date you were advised to stay at home following a positive PCR test result.

You will need to provide:

  • your Test & Protect details, like the date you were advised to stay at home and any reference numbers you have been given
  • personal details such as name, date of birth, address, and contact details
  • proof of employment such as a recent payslip (if you are not self-employed)
  • proof of trading income (if you are self-employed)
  • proof that your business is affected by self-isolation (if you are self-employed)
  • bank account (or building society) details for receiving the payment.
