Financial support during coronavirus

If you are not working due to coronavirus, you may be able to claim benefits, get a reduction on your council tax or apply for funds to support you financially during the crisis.

Job Start Payment

Young people starting work may be entitled to a Job Start Payment. 

The one-off £250 payment is provided by Social Security Scotland for people aged 16 to 24 and care leavers up to age 25 to help with the costs of starting a new job after being unemployed.

Kickstart in Renfrewshire

Kickstart is a UK Government scheme funding employers to create new 6-month job placements for 16 to 24-year-olds who are currently on Universal Credit and at risk of long-term unemployment.

Through partnership with Renfrewshire Chamber of Commerce and Engage Renfrewshire, our jobs and employability team are securing placements with local employers.

Employers can register their interest in providing a placement, with funding covering 100% of the National Minimum Wage for 25 hours a week; the associated employer National Insurance contributions and employer minimum automatic enrolment contributions. There is also additional funding to support the young person to develop the skills and experience they need to find work after completing the placement.
