Your weekly coronavirus update

The current restrictions will remain in place until mid-February and the Scottish Government is due to review these next week.

For now, please be reminded of the importance of sticking to the rules and following the guidelines around hygiene and physical distancing.

Please only leave home for essential purposes - for work if you cannot work from home, to exercise, for caring responsibilities, shared parenting, essential shopping, medicine and other reasonable exemptions.

For more information visit the Scottish Government website.

Bridge Street testing centre

The new walk-through test centre for people with symptoms of Covid-19 is now open at our Bridge Street car park in Paisley.

The centre is part of the NHS/Government national testing programme and is accessible for those who can't get to drive-through sites like the one at Glasgow Airport.

If you have symptoms of coronavirus you can book a test online. Please remember to wear a face covering when you visit the test centre.

Staff news is changing

Good news! Staff news is changing, and we want to make it as easy as possible for you to follow our news updates and take part by sending us your stories and feedback.

Throughout this pandemic we have worked hard to bring you regular updates and uplifting stories about the fantastic work of our colleagues. The way we do this continues to evolve along with the changes to the way we work and live and all our needs across the council.

From now on you can look forward to: fortnightly messages from our Chief Executive, Sandra Black; Take 5 weekly updates; our staff newsletter six times per year and updates from across our services.

You can now find all the latest staff news in the one place on our public website under Staff info > Staff news, along with information on where and when to send your stories.

Holocaust Memorial Day - online event

Wednesday 27 January was Holocaust Memorial Day. A special day to remember those murdered during the Holocaust and more recent genocides.

You can join us on our social media channels from 7pm on Thursday 28 January, where we are hosting an online memorial event in partnership with our colleagues at East Renfrewshire Council.

The ceremony will feature a survivor's story, highlighting the true horror of the Holocaust and subsequent genocides.

There will also be music provided by Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire school pupils, a prayer and an opportunity to light a candle in your own home in memory of all those who were murdered in the Holocaust, under Nazi persecution and in the genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.

To take part visit our Facebook page @renfrewshirecouncil or Twitter @Rencouncil.

Carers Connected

We've said goodbye to 2020 but for our working carers, many of the challenges from last year continue. So, we have a full programme of events lined up to help support you through 2021.

We are starting off with our first virtual "Care for a Cuppa" event on Thursday 4 February at 3.30pm.

Not only will you be able to catch up with other working carers, you will also hear from the Health and Social Care Partnership about accessing 'Self Directed Support' and 'Carer Support Plans'.

The Council has recently been given the top-level award, 'Exemplary', from Carers Positive in recognition of the work we are doing. During the next Care for a Cuppa session you'll see the virtual presentation of the award and we'll be asking for your feedback and ideas on how we can continue to improve on the support available.

Don't forget to book your place.
