GAIA Masterplan

Glasgow Airport Investment Area

We're delivering the Glasgow Airport Investment Area project - creating the connections and infrastructure underpinning development of Scotland's manufacturing innovation district.

Business development site view across White Cart It includes new roads, bridges, cycling routes and pedestrian footpaths, improving access to the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District Scotland (AMIDS) and to nearby Westway and Inchinnan Business Parks.

AMIDS is a collaborative project led by Renfrewshire Council, developing a 52-hectare site next to Glasgow Airport into Scotland's home for advanced manufacturing, creating a unique campus style environment. It has already attracted the world's largest aerospace company Boeing, while construction is underway on building the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland and the Medicines Manufacturing Innovation Centre

What's included in the Airport Investment Area project?

GAIA artists impressions The £39.1million Glasgow City Region City Deal funded project will enable development of AMIDS- bringing new employers, jobs and opportunities to the City Region and support the continued success of Glasgow Airport.

Extensive engagement has guided its development, with feedback surveys showing 94 per cent backing the Glasgow Airport Investment Area project.

  • Abbotsinch Road is being realigned, upgraded and extended, with accompanying pedestrian and cycle lanes to create a route through Netherton Campus, the central site of the manufacturing district.

  • A two-lane bridge for pedestrians, cyclists and commercial traffic across the White Cart river from an approach road off Arran Avenue to Wright Street. The bridge includes a connection into Wright Street business premises, with no through route along Wright Street for vehicles. This will reduce the impact of traffic on residential areas and the bridge will also connect with the proposed Paisley to Renfrew cycle route, currently under development.

  • A pedestrian and cycle bridge over the Black Cart, connecting Abbotsinch Road to Greenock Road.

  • New and improved junctions and connections to existing cycling and pedestrian routes.
